Hello I am new here and I have just bought a 1980 CJ5 with the original AMC 304 V8. It has a 4 speed Transmission and that is all I know about it and the Transfer Case .
The previous owner drained all of the fluids out of the Transmission and the Transfer Case as he was planning to restore it and never put any fluids back in.
I am wondering what kind of fluids and how much to put back into my Transmission and Transfer Case so I will be able to drive my jeep.

What you have is a T-176 Transmission and Dana 300 Transfer Case .
300 = 4 pints
T-176 = 3.5 pints
80-90w in both

If you haven't already, get a simple plastic Gear Oil and Fluid Pump from the local auto parts store or Harbor Freight. Makes it much easier.

I usually fill mine until is starts leaking back out of the filler hole. Also have extra on hand. Good chance it leaks and you will need to top it off every month...week....................day?

Ok, so my other account locked me out and I couldn't get an email sent so I could get a new password so i just created another account.

Neuner thank you for the advice ill be sure to go get one, and as far as rust goes the jeep is originally from Virginia that made its way into Bandera, Texas where I bought it. it has a couple of holes on the sides and a major rot spot on the frame that needs major attention.

Please heed the advice of others here, don't drive that jeep, at least not on the road, until the frame is repaired.

I plan on restoring my jeep so the frame will be the first thing I fix. but thank you.
