1982 cj7 with vortec 5.3, sittin on a 4.5" lift and 35's. This thing is nasty strong.
just bought a 82 CJ7 that has a vortec 5.3 in it. looking for options to get away from the stock front and rear ends. the problem that I am having is that the front end has the passenger side diff. without doing a bunch of welding what are options to swap in.

Can't help you, but would like to know what is wrong with the diff being on the passenger side. New to all this and try to gain knowledge.

There is nothing out there that is the same width as your cj.
People do use old Scout and jeep wagoneer, Dana 44 axles but they are not bolt in and are wider. The 70's chevy trucks also have the pass. drop but are even wider yet.

Nothing wrong with it.
Ford and all the new stuff is driver side drop though.

all right thanks! I don't have a problem with the passenger side drop, I just don't want to go too wide. I know where 2 scouts are so ill think about it. I think ill end up going that direction.

I'll be the first to say that a driver's side drop is way cheaper then a passenger side drop. Compare Chevy front ends to Ford front ends.

...But that is a whole separate issue then what is being discussed here as far as what fits and what doesn't.

That's silly. The junk yards or Craig's list around here are equal in price. You just need to "pinkieer". :)

Dang auto correct.

You need to negotiate

The front diff. 'pumpkin' location is dictated by the make of the t'case.
What is yours?

oh im not concerned about the passenger drop, that's just what is in there now so really why change. I really don't know what t case is in it yet. still doing some research. I di have another problem though. I had oil (gear) leaking from my rear axles so I put new inner and outer seals. just got home from work and STILL pouring oil. AMC20 rear with 2 piece axles. WTF HELP

My first guess there would be the axle seal mating surfaces, like wear on the axle or where the seal fits in the housing. Good time to determine whether the axles are worth salvaging. Possibly converting to one piece axles.

You have inner and outer(2)seals on each axle.
Hope you have the inner facing the correct way.
