Front Axle Question

I was looking at my front axles today and they are just nasty. I would like to replace them so my question is: Are they good enough to just clean up and replace the u-joints or should i go with whole new axles? And then... which brand would you guys recommend?

After looking at the pics I think just changing them out would be best. Maybe new knuckles too.

They look corroded definitely. I would check the insides. If those are corroded then new axle housings if they look good cleanup the corrosion paint them and run them.

I think you should toss your axle in the scrap yard and get what you can for it. Then go out and buy a front 60 and rear 14.

Your kidding about your axle right? Nothing wrong with your axle, cleaning, maintenance, and paint is all you need.

I agree with Posi, my axles looked very similar when I stripped my CJ7 down to the frame. I’ve done some exploratory wire brushing to verify it’s just surface ugliness and sure enough, they’re fine underneath.

Just need a full brushing with a wire wheel and paint. I’m changing out my gear ratio and bearings and seals seals so not to worried about the inside.

You should be fine with some elbow grease and use the money you would have spent otherwise on dinner for your significant other. You’ll need that equity down the road.
