I have a 3b with a SBC, TH350, Dana 20 . I just had a narrow Dana 30 installed to replace my 27A that was in it prior, but the install can't be completed becuase my front drive shaft will be hitting the Transmission . Notching the pan is not an option becuase drive shaft wants to valve body and housing. The more and Transmission need to move about an inch but then would be hitting my steering linkage. Has anyone else come a cross this issue? And advise or help would be great, I really would like to keep the automatic.

One solution might be to utilize a 2 piece front driveshaft.
Angle from the Transfer Case the minimum amount needed for clearance, then position/fabricate/weld a center support bearing to the frame area, with the remainder of the angled front shaft necessary continuing on to the front axle.

Have seen this done on many early Jeeps with auto Transmission conversions.
That's not to say that every conversion needs this modification.

Can you clock it down? I don't know how the Transmission to adapter is shaped but if it's round you may be able to redrill and clock it down. It's what I had to do to get my NP 231 to work behind the automatic that I have.

Clocking the texas patterned Dana 20 isn't going to be feasible.

OP, what size driveshaft do you have? How much clearance do you need? Maybe a smaller diameter driveshaft would work?

I was thinking that maybe he had some sort of adapter to go from the Transmission to the Transfer Case . I know the 20 can't be clocked but I don't know GM transmissions. I thought the output might be round.

If he was to swap the 20 out for a 300 then he could clock it and have a better Transfer Case .

Debating converting to a nv4500, but I'll see if I can track a Dana 300 . I'm really at a loss of thoughts at the moment. Thanks for the ideas and keep them coming!

I heard the front output shaft on a Dana 300 is further over to the passenger side than a Dana 20 is there any truth to this?
