fuel gage reads empty with 5 gal remaining
Hi everyone,
My gas gauge also doesn't work. What is the process for dropping my tank? ( Whoo hoo new project!) The guy I bought my jeep from said he put in the wrong gauge for the tank when he relocated the tank into the back. Could it just be the gauge isn't adjusted correctly? If it is the wrong gauge, how can I tell so I order the correct one? Finally, when I gas it up if I overflow, instead of the gas coming out the tube, it overflows out of the top of the tank under my jeep. Until I drop the tank I probable won't be able to tell, but it seems like at the very least I'm missing a gasket. You have to love the never ending list of things to fix. As I'm typing this I'm thinking "gosh that's a bit disturbing" it's a good thing winter is coming, taking the jeep out of commission for a bit won't be such a hardship.

I just installed A Autometer fuel gauge in my dash panel. No more screwing around with cheap gauge in the speedo cluster. Am also going to replace the sending unit. I hooked every thing up and tested it before starting the job.

success its good to have fuel gauge working. To my surprise the tank was full.

My fuel gauge stopped working several years ago, but due to medical issues I haven't been driving it for 4 years. Finally getting it back on the road, so making my gauge work again is a desired thing. Tank's clean (MTS Poly tank)........pickup sock is clean......brass float is sealed up. Found the "pink wire" (sender to gauge) and made sure connection was good at the tank. Still no reading with a full tank. I guess it's time to chase wires to find any breaks.

Getting very proficient at dropping/installing the tank, though. All the connections - hoses, wires, etc - are extra-long now, so I can fully drop it to the driveway before trying to unhook everything. Plus, a Transmission jack works great!

I also added a drain petcock (like on a radiator) for ease of drainage - fully protected from damage, of course.
