Location
Tucson, AZ & Mexico (both Mainland & Baja)
Vehicle(s)
1970 CJ5, V6, 3spd, power steering, headers, electric fans, upgraded larger radiator, '78 grill, disc brakes (front only), swing pedals, hyd clutch, extended front shock mounts, upgraded front driveline w larger u-joints, warn OD, D30 front diff, lockers, 2100 carb, working on a '74 tub replacement, '78 windshield frame with '78+ Acme hardtop
I have a '70 CJ5 with the rear fuel tank. The previous owner replaced the original tank (said it was rusted out) with a '78 fuel tank. It was used and is now failing. I have repaired a couple of times but it is time for a NEW replacement. It looks like he bent the corners to get the tank to fit (may not even be installed correctly) and is tight but in the hole. Since I have never seen how the original tank fits I have a couple of questions.

First question, does anyone have the length x width x height of the '70 tank so I can compare.

Second question, I am going with a poly tank, any recommendations?

Thanks,

Try MTS COMPANY, L.C. - Jeep CJ/YJ Gas Tanks
They specialize in gas tanks and sending units. They have filler hoses, breather lines, mounting straps, etc. I bought a sending unit from them. Much better quality than the overseas :dung: that is out there. They are in Iowa.

After reading the responses and further research I have come to the follow conclusions.

Size is the same, only the filler tube is different and my '70 Jeep is already changed over to '78.

MTS is the route to go.

Tank is strapped to the protective shield.

Someone correct me if I am wrong. So now I need to find the best deal!

Thanks,
