gear shift rattle

I have a 1969 jeep CJ5 with a Pontiac fire bird 3.8 231 v6 motor and it has started to rattle in 1st and 2nd gear. someone said it was the tcase others said motor...when not in gear motor sounds fine runs fine...when put into first get rattle sound same as second but not third gear..it is a 3speed. any idea's?

CK your oil levels, and then the engine and tranny mounts.
Also check the exhaust system for rattles and contact.
