Hi guys, forum newb, just picked up an '81 CJ5 with the iron duke, she's spewing oil from this orange plate which doesn't seem to belong here. So what is supposed to go between the fuel pump and oil filter?

I do believe that is the hole for the distributer, but I will admit I am not 100% sure. If it is leaking remove it scrape it clean with a razor and wire brush, apply some good RTV, Permatex Right Stuff or Grey. That will seal it and you should be good to go.

what type of distributor do you have? the pic i found kinda shows a distributor there.

I found this pic doing a google search. I don't know what the purpose of the hole is just above and to the left of where the oil filter screws on. Evidently, the folks with the motor above didn't either. It has a block off plate also. Looks like theirs is shaped a little better so it'll actually block off the hole. You may just need to make a better block off plate out of a piece of scrap flat stock, cut yourself a new gasket and put some caulk gasket maker on it to help seal and bolt it down.

Except for a good source to start an oil leak, I don't have a clue what it's for.
