I have been away from Jeeps for a while. My last one was a TJ and I was wasn't happy with it. We ended up selling it and my wife has been begging me ever sense to find another Jeep.
I just found a 84 CJ7 that is looking promising but it is a several hour drive away from me. I just happened to know a acquaintance who was in the same town so he went over yesterday to check it out before I made the trip.
He was impressed with it, but he wasn't to familiar with the older Jeeps and especially a Jeep that was a auto.

The only he sent me of the Transmission was this. I am curious if anyone of you has any idea.

Also, is this a Dana 300 Transfer Case ?

Get the VIN# and GOOGLE search to see what tranny it left the factory with. Go to the local PO-PO station and have them 'run' the VIN to be sure it comes back to this seller.
The tranny cross-member is 'bubba-fied' to say the least.
Yes-looks like a D/300 t'case.
How good of a wrench are you? The last CJ was made 32+ years ago.
How about more pictures.........

By googling the Vin it came with a 2.5l and 4 speed manual. I don't have any more pictures of the Transmission , that's all my buddy sent me.

Being a farmer I am a good wrench, primarily on heavy equipment and small engines though.

Just my personal opinion, but unless its super cheap, I'd pass on it just based on those pics. Dual exhaust means someone has Transmission -planted something into an 80's CJ and the cross member alone makes me question the skill/mind-set of the seller. Do you have any emissions testing or safety inspections where you live? If so, another reason to keep looking. Again, just my opinion

That is definitely a bubba cross member, as mentioned above. And the dual exhaust (also mentioned above), would seem to indicate that a significant modification has been made to the Jeep. With that being said, more investigation on your part should be performed, to find out exactly what has been changed on it. Since you live in snow country, I'd be looking carefully at rust, both on the body and under it. If it has a fresh paint job, look very carefully for rust.

In the end, only you can decide if it is above your skill level and/or if you are willing to commit to the effort, to get everything sorted out. Try to be honest with yourself. These old Jeeps are a blast to mess with, but they are OLD.

Keep us posted.
