1985 Jeep CJ7 4WD 5 Speed Hardtop Hard Doors
My son will be back from Afghanistan in a few months and is all hot and bothered for a jeep and was going to have his wife go and make an offer on this one tomorrow. My only concern is the Transmission , it says 5 speed, this would be a T-5 correct? if so is it a deal breaker or not. He's kinda hard on manuals. Is there an easy swap or should the search continue for something else?

Looks like a very nice Jeep, I have a T-5 in mine and have beat the :dung: out of it. But it doesn't have a lift and I'm running 31.50 tires and it has held up fine.

If thats a 5-speed its not a T-5 , the shifter sits to far up for a T-5 . Thats a T-176 4-speed if you look at the shift boot. That jeep is nice but not for 9K.

:agree:not a T-5 , I have a T-5 and my boot for it sits further back, almost after the tcase shifter

I agree that 9000 is to much. Told him cash at 6500 might take it it's been sitting for a while. Good info otherwise not really up on 4s and 5s . It's listed with a 5 speed I will call them when they open and figure it out thanks.

Looks like a T-176 to me too. Definitely not a T-5 .

That is a clean Jeep, but nowhere near a $9K Jeep. I'd say about $5K tops, and that's IF there is ZERO rust on it and it runs perfectly (my opinon). No options on that thing at all. Base model Jeep with all the original interior gone.

Again, value is what someone is willing to pay, but unless you find me a loaded Laredo or Renegade in that condition, it's worth nowhere near what he's asking.

Preaching to the choir. I like em cheap, ugly, functional and unbreakable. But it's not for me.

A T-5 stick shift is bent in the middle, not straight like that one, and yes mounted more to the rear than the "4WD" shifter.
Too make a legacy jeep look that nice, you will spend way over $9000 IMO. I bought mine for $6200 in good shape. Drove it four years as is, but I have spent double and then some the next three years. ...carb, lockers, seats, complete exhaust upgrade, paint job, lift, tires... it goes on and on and on... Can't remember everything... winch, bumpers...

I like it. I think it is great shape and up in this area just the rust free body would demand a higer price tag.

Well I spoke with the seller again and he finally went out and checked it is a four speed sent a pic it is a T-176 no rust no rot body or frame. It's on consignment from Tennessee seller is firm at 8500. A bit more than the he wants to spend. I'm with you a rust free cj in Ohio or Michigan can get pretty salty! I want to live in that other place where clean cjs sell for 2500 cash!! I'll even build a bigger shop!
