OK, im ready to buy a set of ceramic coated headers, every app. chart goes to 1980. Need to know if the fenderwell header will fit the 1984 CJ7 with 401 motor with just minor trimming of the inner fender?? Also looking for nice side pipe manufacturer to use. Thanks

Since they did not really change the body between 76 and 86 I dont see why you would have any problems with em. 81 may have been the first year where they did not put the v-8 in em..

I had Hedman headers and side pipes on my 84 when I had a 360 in it. Looked good, fit well, and sounded nice, too. To the best of my memory, there wasn't much trimming at all involved.

I'm not a fan of fender well dumps or side pipes. I still have a scar from a buddies side pipe.

Any good muffler shop can run duals out the back. :D

I went "old school" and put Thrush glass packs on my '76 CJ5 with a AMC 304 . Gotta love those "Chicken" mufflers. Straight bolt on to the fenderwell header flange with the exit in front of the rear tires. Nice deep rumble.....
If you go that route, keep ear plugs handy for those long rides. Another FYI is to be sure and support the muffler with some sort of bracket. Just letting it hang from the collector flange is asking for a cracked (or worse, broke off) muffler flange (ask me how I know!).
