I feel compelled to give you the standard take on headers. First off I have headers on my AMC V8, they were on the CJ when I bought it. With that being said I would NEVER put headers on a CJ again. They seem innocent enough, but they can be a real pain. Mine tend to loosen up and need attention. There are some really cool locking type washers that are worth your while when installing a set of headers. Headers are HOT, you feel them in the floor and under the hood. They are tight around the starter motor which turn the motor into a serious heat sink. Headers are best at high RPM's and not so good for low end torque. Try to take all the negatives into consideration before installing them.

Yes, I'm a stick in the mud when it comes to side pipes. In my opinion they are borderline dangerous and over time annoying. The sound is cool when you first get the pipes, but that constant droning right under your seat gats old. The dangerous part is the way the exhaust fills the drivers area, even with nothing but a bikini top. I will always suggest bringing your pipes out the rear corner, NOT THE REAR CENTER, or your jeep. the exhaust needs to be in the rough air behind the tires to get it out and away from the vehicle.

Thanks for the feedback and can appreciate the concerns. I probably should have made note in the original post that I'm aware of several of those. But considering this is a weekend toy and the top is never on, it's a risk I'm willing to take.

Still looking for input on if these side pipes would work. It looks like one is universal and one is made for corvette.

REM-FLEX gaskets would solve a lot of issues you have.
