Another Question ! I have 73 CJ5 with a AMC 304 V8. The heater is pretty much totally shot, which is not an issue because I will never use it anyway. I had planned on taking the whole unit out from under the dash but what do I do with the heater hoses ????????????

You have two hoses that go to the heater take one off and the other one remove from it from the heater and hook it to where you removed the first hose at the motor.

Question for you fellows.I don't know squat about a AMC 304 engine, but does the coolant have to flow between those two points or can you remove the nipples and plug with NPT plug?? mike

You can plug them off.

I need to say something here. If you remove the heater, you will also remove the air for your defroster. It's not the heat, it's keeping the windshield clear that I'd be concerned about.

I'm not sure how you'd block the hose nipples off. I suppose it would be possible to tap the nipple I.D. and screw a plug into it. It seems that somewhere in the part I've heard that the engine intake uses the return water to regulate intake heat. It's a very dim. memory, I could be wrong. I'd try to keep water flowing through the engine the way it was designed to run.

On some of the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l engines they run the return heater hose through the intake manifold to heat the gasses in colder weather. I believe the AMC 304 doesn't.

On this AMC 304 one hose goes from the water pump to the heater connection on the firewall.....the other goes from the heater connection on the firewall to a connection on the back of the intake manifold

So just run a hose from the water pump to the intake and all will be good.

Hello Geep

Please take some pictures because I was thinking about doing this. I live in Cali so I never use heat or defrost.

Would it make any difference in the coolant temperature, being that the hose going from the water pump to the back of the intake is a shorter route than the original route thru the heater....that being longer ?

Nope. Just going to reduce total capacity a little. Keep in mind, a long time ago vehicle heaters were actually an OPTION!!

Please plug the dang holes and be done with it.The heater hose has absolutley nothing to do with the engine cooling other than the cooling from the heater core. You can live with out that. Most systems have a heat control valve that shuts off the flow of coolant to the heater core when it is not in use.Really. :) mike s.

Burn them with fire!
