1999 JEEP Grand Cherokee 4,7 stock. Family car
At eastern I done my 360 engine swap on the CJ.
The I6 with T-4 Transmission came out.
Now there is a 360 with T 176 and Dana 300 Transfer Case inside. It fit very nice. I done all the things they are necessary for that swap. The biggest radiator new fuel lines from passenger side swaped to driver side brand new motor mounts for the V8 and Moser one pice axles for my AMC20
Now I have a big problem:
My drive shafts won´t fit. I have a pair from my I6/T-4 . The rear is too short and the front too long.
I´m not sure if there any driveshafts on the market who´ll fit. Or must I go to the driveshaft dealer to short the long and make the shorter longer.
Which drive shafts do you have after such a swap?Really help need.

Regards from Germany :chug:

Wow - All the way from Germany! Must be neat to have a CJ there. I'm afraid you will need to have a set of custom driveshafts built. Not a big deal, but some extra money. Find a local shop and ask them about measuring. Typically you will need an accurate measurement yoke to yoke. They will build and balance.

You need to be careful about angles. The new drivetrain should be in the same plane with the pinion angle. This is hard to explain in text, but there are plenty of websites with diagrams. I would adjust my tcase height to the correct spot before measuring for the new driveline.

Thanks for your answer. I´m happy that you can understand my school english ;) Yes of course I MUST do something with the angles. I build in a 4,5" Trailmaster Lift and 2,5" shackles for better off road. The first I done was to lift down the Transfer Case and the cross member about 1". Now I think I must put some plates between the axle and the rear springs.
Alternative I´m looking for a double U joint or slip yoke eliminator....
In US you have such things for small bucks. But they won´t ship to Germany. Here in Germany this custom shafts are extremly expensive. Like 1000$

You can purchase complete, stock replacement Jeep driveshafts from 4WD Hardware - they have a large enough selection that you should be able to find one to meet your specific drivetrain combination. Don't be concerned about the listed application, just find the one with the correct running length and collapsed length from your measurements. U-joints are all the same. Link to 4WD Hardware CJ driveshafts: Jeep Drive Shafts

Let us know what you find and please post a picture of your Jeep.

Do you have a welder or have a friend that owns one? If you plan to keep the standard driveshaft the front is easy to do just cut it down and weld it, no need to balance the front. Take the rear to a machine shop and have it lengthen and balanced. You have two good driveshafts I'd us them.

There are companies in the US that give you an US delivery address and
forward it to you in Germany, they just charge the actual freight costs.
I always use www.parcel2me.com, works perfect and no issues with
shipping overseas...

I forgot, there are companies that shorten/build drive shafts for a
reasonable amount of Money. But I only have addresses in Austria,
but it should be available in Germany, too.

Oh great. Please send the adress or web mail.:)

Nevertheless, easiest would be to get the driveshafts from a V8
with the T-176 /Dana 300 combo from a junkyard, if you have used the
original motor mounts. There must be at least some wreckers in Germany,
that deal used parts.
Shortening or making it longer is quite pricey still...

If the drive shafts you have are in good working order have a driveshaft shop cut one down and add some length to the other. This last summer my old '75 needed new drive shafts, so after doing as you are doing I went tomy local Jeep guy, got a front and a rear that were to long, then took them to a drive shaft guy and had them shortened. They work as expected, no complaints. If you are going to lift the Jeep ,do that first, why waste more money on drive shafts than necessary.
