Hesitation/Stumble with the new MC2150

Hesitation/Stumble with the new MC2150
The eBay guy told me that it came with a 47 and 48 but instead when I opened them up they are both 49s!! I contacted him via email and text and we will see how he responds. I was expected a simple bolt on, but I'm having to troubleshoot his kit, which is making me frustrated.

absolutly nothing is ever as easy as it first looks.

If you decide to change jets, find/buy a screw driver that fits them perfectly or grind one to fit perfectly. they are quite soft and will brake or distort easily.

You're right, but when the auction says this "This kit is built and set by ME and will be perfect!" and that's your 5th sentence, then that's what I expect. I guess to me I want what I pay for, and nothing else. I understand that carbs are more picky than having computer controlled FI, but my biggest problem is when you say that you have put something in based on your elevation (I'm at sea level) then I expect to see that when I open the carb. If it's a mistake, then I understand that to err is human, but make it right.

I was told to measure the barrel diameter to get what size the venturi clusters were. I measured them, but it came out too large. Am I doing something wrong?

I measured the opening at about 1 9/16 or 1.5625.

Here is a picture.

*EDIT*

Found that 1.56 is the right size for the 1.08.

I've rebuilt exactly ONE MC2100 carb, so I'm an expert...;-) But my same hesitation went away. I had a clearly blown power valve. I swore and swore it was the accelerator pump but it wasn't. That was me, this is you but that's my 2cts.

More experienced than me. I'm going to wait to hear back from him to see what's up.

Only experience I have is disassembling this one and that was cake!

*EDIT*

He is offering to send me a replacement carb setup the same way we have it now. If it still has the same problem then I know its not the carb.

Fixed

So after speaking with Scrapman on Jeepforum we found that the accelerator pump wasn't giving it the full juice it was after. I straightened the rod out all the way, and switched the linkage to the top hole and it works perfect. In any case I need to let Michael (eBay guy) know so he stops building my new carb.

Here are the two videos.

This video shows how much it was pushing the button in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQDQRDHrSn8

This video shows after it was straightened how it doesn't push the button in at all until the throttle is hit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQDQRDHrSn8

Haven't had a chance to see the videos (I'm muchly married, so my time isn't my own) but I will tonight. I followed the exact same track, and will see tomorrow when I refill the radiator and fire her up.

Thanx for posting these.

Glad you finally got it working correctly! :chug:

I am too. Just arrived at work with it. So much better when merging onto the highway.

I'm glad I found this post - I got a 2150 carb (brand new one) from Mike a few months ago and since installing/nuttering I have the exact symptoms you describe - stammering just after full throttle that clears then pulls smoothly and strongly after that.

I've suspected the acc pump for a while but was hesitant to bend the linkage out. I have replaced the coil, fuel filter, and have diddled with the timing to try and make it stop. The top setting for the acc pump linkage did help but it still has a touch of hesitation.

I'm going to try and straighten my linkage all the way - but I can't find your second vid though - the links above are both to the same video.

Would you mind reposting or sending to me in a PM? I want to see what yours looks like so I can duplicate it. You're the first person I've found on the forums who had the exact identical problem I have from the exact same setup, so I'm feeling fairly optimistic :)

Thanks!

I no longer have the carb on the jeep or the video. I just straightened it out. It never lost the hesitation, so it was changed to a Holley 390, haven't looked back.

Well :dung: - from the post above mine it sounded like you got it working perfectly. Did it start acting up again or...?

I wouldn't say it was perfect. The severe hesitation was gone, but there was still a very slight one. Once you got past the initial hickup it ran really well. Just every time you stopped it happened again. It got on my nerves really quick.

I've been debating what to do with the old carb, since it will not be going back on my Jeep after I've run the Holley.

Best of luck finding the problem.

I fiddled with my timing and straightened the linkage today. Definitelty better but still a slight hesitation just after taking off. Seemed to decrease the warmer it got. Thinking of changing to an elec fuel pump and adjusting. Will post the results here, if any.

Thanks again for your feedback.
