homemade hardtop?
Sounds interesting. I don't know if I have any advice for you but I'd love to see it done. You'll have to post it.I really want a safari (as in African safari) look. Maybe sheet metal for the roof with roll up canvas sides and back.
Have you seen this site? The prices look pretty good for a new hardtop. Only for 76 and up though. For a 72 - 75 you would need to change the windshield. As hard as it is to find a hardtop for a cj-5 if you make one people would like it could make you rich.
That is one nice looking and straight CJ5!

.
I don't know how you can say that I have had both and the soft top is a lot louder and the hardtop is a lot warmer.I never thought the hard top was warmer than the soft top just more secure. the soft top was actually quieter.![]()

No just the factory soft top. Now I have CJ7 with a hardtop and doors and it is like night and day.Did you have a hard top on a CJ5??![]()
Post some picsOk, design (and maybe some fabrication) for the top starts this weekend.
You should make new threads for these mods instead of blending it in with a thread on the hardtop. Also going to convert the points ignition to electronic. Anyone use Mallory conversion units before? Also, should I worry about rebuilding the old carb or replace it? What would be a good (but reasonably inexpensive) upgrade?
