I have an 82 CJ5 , just picked it up from a guy and want to know how to identify the axles, Transmission and tansfer case...
Is there markings and if so where are they located.
I'm doing a once over on it and just want to be able to identify everything.

the Transmission and xfer case will have numbers on them, also a name on them. Once you get that info, you can do a search. The axles, just get a picture, or at least know what they look like, and check out something like this Axle Identification Chart that should get you started.

when you get the numbers off the tranny and t case, go to novak adapters website and look under the knowledge section where they can help you identify those units

My guess is that you have a Dana 30 front axle, AMC20 rear, a T-5 tranny and a Dana 300 TCase. But to make sure a previous owner didn't swap anything out follow the advice of CJKrawler and BajaEdition to make sure.

But if you have a4speed it could be aT176 or T-4 ,Dana 300 .
Note a T-176 is a long shifter.
