Hey guys! Just bought ANOTHER CJ7 . Another 79 model but this one has the 6 cyl. and the T-18 Transmission . It also has a 4 inch spring lift. The body is shot but now I have two complete, running drivetrains to work with. The v-8 and 3 spd and the I-6 and 4 spd.
Drove it home about 40 miles. Runs great except it wants to cut off at stop lights and such (even warm). It starts right back up, but I suspect the carb will need going thru. I am not familiar with these carbs but I guess I soon will be.:(
Trans shifts smooth and clutch is good. 4wd works as it should. It's got PS and Power disc brakes.
I was amazed how much better it drives than my other one, even with the lift and a tiny steering wheel the PO put on it. (that has GOT to go:mad:)
All in all I'm pleased with it. I have the drivetrains, what I dont have is the body.
I'm gonna combine the best of the 2 jeeps together into 1 and then maybe part out what I don't use. Anybody have any opinions or votes on the combinations possible on the drivetrain? I know the 4 spd. T-18 is a no brainer but can't decide on the v-8 vs. I-6 debate. I like the v-8 power but I like the I-6 reputation. I know this has probably been hashed over a thousand times on here.
Thoughts anyone? On any part of the post? (carb, etc.)
Thanks,
Rajah

I say post pics or it never happened :wtf: .... I'm a big fan of the I6, if it was mine to do I'd keep the I6-T-18 CJ all together and replace body parts as needed.

^^:agree:^^ with Hole

In reality the T-18 is a 3 speed with a compound or granny gear for the occasional hard pull. You are right, the T-18 is a no brainer. Either engine will serve you well.

Well if the V-8 is a stock AMC 304 Id go with the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . If its a 360 or up Im all about the V-8. Just not sure if its a stock drivetrain or not. Its really hard to see from here. :D

I'm a V8 fan, myself. Especially if it is a 360. I'd probably take a AMC 304 , simply because I've never had much experience with the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . I do hear that they are torquey sons of guns, though.

Now we're getting somewhere ;) Congrats on the new addition!

Now that's a garage big enough to work in!

Both bodies are trashed. There will be mucho bodywork. Probably better off finding a tub.

Going through Pa anytime soon? With a trailer? If you decide to do the CJ7 I have a Yj tub in my garage I'll give you. Needs a driver side floor pan and a little rocker work. Otherwise clean and straight.

Thanks guys! I'm really excited about getting to work on them. Lots to do and BIG PLANS! now if I can find the time and fundage.....:(

@Petescj--Thank you sir for your VERY generous offer. I certainly appreciate it.:notworthy: But three things hold me up from taking advantage of it at this time:
1- I do not own a trailer (my brother-in-law has one, but no way does that thing make it to PA without me getting cited for something)
2- I do not own a truck I would trust to drive that far (I have 3, they only make local runs)
3- the last time my kin went through PA we got sent back handily. (j/k, I'm a Civil War buff:))

So, regretfully, I must decline. Thank you again tho.

I love this website. Very helpful and very friendly. Maybe as I get more into my jeep and knowledgable, I can contribute more myself.:chug:

No Problem and #3 gave me a good laugh  I believe you have to have some bit of red kneck in you just to want to wheel a Cj. :chug:
