Leak

Hi all,

I just picked up my CJ7 1978 yesterday, it is a old lady but she looks pretty good.

I came across an issue though, there is a leak coming and I have a small patch of oil under the car now. I think it is pretty difficult to see from where it is coming. But it could be from valve cover gasket, need to look at bit further than that.

Do you have any ideas of what this could be?

It's not leaking!! It's only marking it's terrirory! Seriously though, I know on our 79 with a AMC 304 , one of the many areas for leaks to develop is that the oil pan bolts keep loosening up. I am going to replace the gasket and use a little locktite, but right now, the bolts keep backing off even though correctly torqued. If it's one of the main crank seals, that is a bit more involved to correct.

Hard to say since you did not indicate what engine you have.
IF-It's the straight 6 cyl. Very common for the back of the valve cover to leak.
Just wipe your hand(cold engine)at the back where it meets the cyl-head and then you'll know.
I would also be check'n ALL fluid levels.............
