ok. i have a 79 CJ7 and it has QuadraTrac . now i've never delt with QuadraTrac so idk how well it works so i was wondering is it possible to put in locking hubs instead of having the QuadraTrac ? if so how would one go about doing that

Yes, you can add locking hubs..

HOWEVER, you need to add those in addition to a 2x4 Transfer Case conversion kit!!! such as Milemarker

DO NOT just add the locking hubs. Doing so will tear up the TC.

It is meant to be fulltime 4wd, and by unlocking the front end, it really messes up the TC when there isnt any resistance when there is torque applied to the front output...

I got my kit in 1988 and paid $365 shipped...They arent as cheap nowdays. I recently saw a used kit for about $275 on ebay. Once in a while they come up for sale. That would have been a smokin deal.

Either leave it as is, or get the full 2x4 kit for it.

Did some looking to find that old post.
It wasnt on ebay, it was from another jeep forum. A guy was selling a used full kit for $200..
But that was months ago, and I cant find it now.

If I run into it, I'll let you know.

And you're supposed to use their special fluid for the TC (maybe just the reduction unit)... They must think it is gold because the last time I looked, it was about $20 a qt.

Brian is spot on. If you dont convert the t-case you'll burn it up. Its not a bad idea if your t-case is a bit sloppy to begin with. Theres a 16%overdrive kit as well

I followed both of those, and it seems they are both discontinued:(

Actually found a kit on Amazon for $493

Way back in 1988, the part number for the kit was 95-15203 if that helps searching for one.
EDIT: Part numbers could have changed, so make sure it matches your application.

thanks guys i'll keep looking for them because i just like having the control and the knowing that they are locked in. you know what i mean.

Also you would need some type of adapter plate if you want to keep your GM Turbo 400 . If you dont want to do the part time kit Id look for a donor Cj with what you want from the Transmission back.

thats a good idea. i'll have to look around for another jeep to get the stuff i need. does anyone have anything to say about the QuadraTrac ? like does it work good on the trails or is it worth going for the conversion kit

Quadratrac is a good TCase if you keep it well oiled.

If the oil has not been kept up to level you should replace the chain or a part time kit (it replaces most of the wear parts)

thats a great thread. now after looking at the pic for my tc, i'm wondering where my vacuum house for the emergency low ranger goes. none of these are on mine. like i have the place to put the rubber hoses into the switch and the pipes coming from the Transfer Case but they are not connected. now i can connect the two going into the switch but idk where to send the third vacuum hose for the switch. can you help me out
