Hey all. I couldn't search for this topic because the "search button" isn't working on my computer.:bang:

So, I have someone who will give me a 360 (although there's a possibility it's a 318) that was tuned to run a 73 Dodge Powerwagon, supposedly it's been bored and maybe stroked. There's a Holley 4 barrel with a Holley intake, headers, and a 4 speed behind it bolted to a divorced Transfer Case (I know that I won't be able to use the Transfer Case ). I would like to pay him at least scrap price for it and then build it.

My question is this: is it worth getting this engine for my CJ with the work that will be involved? The work doesn't bother me unless I'm going to have to do a TON of modification and welding (better grinder than a welder).

Let me know thoughts. And thanks!

:chug:

Sure!
Almost every engine swap is going to lead to fabrication of some sort.
Even when I went from an AMC 4cyl to an AMC 6 cyl...and then to an AMC V8.

Chevy guys have to use frame/motor mounts that are either built by them or bought as a specialty item, than deal with different components to work with their CJ.

Ford guys might have it a little easier given bolt pattern compatibility with some of the AMC bell housings....but even then, there's some fabbing to do.

I say do it :chug:

One vote for Yay. Looks like I'd have to do the same amount of work for an AMC 360.

You will have a front sump oil pan stock, left side starter.

10 lbs. heavier than an AMC V8
2" longer
1.5" narrower & taller
The rest of the dimensions are the same.

Motor mounts, bell housing/Transmission , clutch, exhaust & hoses.

Nothing to major.

What are you trying to gain rom the swap? ..... for someone looking for an easy swap, this ain't a good place to start.

Not really worried about hard work, I just want to minimize the fabricating if I can. Hard to pass up a lead on a good engine, the V8 would give me more power and that V8 sound.
