1985 CJ7 Renegade 258 inline 6. (All currently stock... working to change that one piece at a time).
Went out to the garrage today and noticed some cooland under the jeep. It looks to be leaking from in between the head and the block... I could be in trouble with another tear down in my future. It runs find, and this is new (only about 80 miles since I pulled the head the first time). If I do have to redo, can I reuse my $100 ARP head bolts (bough brand new 2 months ago)? Do you guys think that it just loosened up (I didn't go back and Retorque) and all I should have to do is pull the valve cover and give it a once over with the TRQ wrench? Any help would be appreciated.

I would say start with the retorque. It is possible that you got some bad bolts and they stretched out or maybe things just started moving around and the bolts could have loosened up. Best to do it with a warm engine.

I don't know what heads you have, but if they are aluminiun they should be re- torked.

You said you had just pulled the head and replaced the gasket why? If it was because of a blown head gasket did you do anything other than just replace the gasket? If not I think you have other problems like a warped head or block. I don't think a retorke is going to fix your problem.

I'd try a retorque, even if it doesn't work you've lost nothing. No problem going torque plus 5%. You could also try some stop leak.

But why was the head removed in the first place?

Bob

No problem reusing the headbolts these are not the stretched kind like on many cars of today.

Give her a re-torque first.

But it's always easier the second time. :D
