Build Thread My Cj-8 build thread
That's too bad, Cause if you love running like I do it's gonna suck not being able to. did you warm up and/or stretch before your run?. Here's to a speedy recovery.

I only just started a couple weeks ago , and no I didnt warm up at all. I was "in a hurry" and wanted to get back and finish the bed. Not too bright on my part especially just starting out. I'll pay for it for a few days and lesson learned. :bang:

My calf hurt pretty good today , but Im running out of warm days quick. Today was only 55 degrees , not exactly paint weather. I did manage to get the first coat of Herc on the bed. Its starting to look better already. Tomorrow is supposed to be 65 degrees and the second coat will go on then.

Big improvement ! Is the liner non-slip as well ?

Its the roll on Herculiner. Has bits of rubber in it but Im thinking I'll need a cargo mat on top to keep anything Im hauling around in place. Made the top look pretty drab so I'll be painting the 1/2 top also , but not Herc.

I did geat the 2nd coat of Herc on there, and a good thing too. Four days of rain scheduled and yesterday that crummy white stuff started falling from the sky. Way too early for that. I have garage envy. :D Anyway too wet too get pics but maybe when I get home from work.

Next up is installing my Craigslist $50 Weber. There was no adapter plate so I ordered one up from Ebay with hardware and gaskets for $35. As soon as it arrives (weather cooperating) I'll be installing it.

Ive been driving the Scrambler back and forth to work now for a few weeks to get my baseline Mpg #s. The results are lets say , less than stellar. After 4 tanks of gas driven the same route for those 4 weeks I got an average of 14.1 Mpg. Cw mentioned he got between 19 and 20. The Bbd carb is definately responsible for some of this as are a boatload of emmisions stuff. Once I get the adapter plate here I'll begin the swap.

Following up a little. The bedliner made my black top look more gray so painting that was in order. Here is a pic with the 1/2 top painted after the 2nd coat of Herc. As you can see its raining , again. :( The Craigslist guy threw in the stainless steel fuel filler for free , so I bolted it up this morning.

I havent had any luck getting the linkage I need for the weber. Im waiting for replies from a couple places. Tried to fab it up at work but I didnt have the right diameter rod in stock.:bang: Here I sit with a Mc 2100 and a Weber and cant bolt on either. Id need the plate for the 2100. I sold the T-176 I got for $75 and made a $125 profit to boot. Somewhere in the next few days my new billet h.e.i. distributor should be arriving wich is where that money went.

Before it started raining I did manage to do some little stuff. Adjust the passenger door so it wouldnt leak and fix the handle so it now opens from the outside. You saw the fuel filler already. Heres were we get to the one your either gonna like or hate. This was thrown in with the $200 from the guy who bought the Transmission .

Sometimes its jut the little things that make a difference. Since I put my 1/2 hardtop on its been rattling around driving me nuts. Cj-8s use 4 bolts going up through the bulkhead and into nutserts captured inside the 1/2 top. After about twenty or so years these strip out and are worthless. Unlike the Cj-7s there is a double wall of fiberglass , you cant just clamp it to the bulkhead. I'll take some pics tomorrow and show you all how I decided to give this sloppy top a good solid fix.

Forgot to add the Weber linkage is on its way. This weekend Im hoping to install the H.e.i. dizzy and the Weber. :D

Im pretty stoked. Parts are arriving!! Between Cw and Elwood I decided on this billet h.e.i. and a Weber. I used the Team Rush and Motorcraft 2100 on my 85 and was pretty happy. After paying some attention to those 2 guys I believe this is going to bring a bigger smile to my face after everythings tuned in.

Hey nice build thread Pete. I love threads with pics. What brand is the dist.? Ive seen a few on fleabay and wondered if there was any diffrence in them

Thanx. This is probably the most exciting mod Im doing. I was told by the Craigslist guy it was Pro comp. I myself thought they made tires lol. For $AMC 150 with wires , coil and plugs I couldnt turn it away. Between the Weber and this dizzy Im hoping for 19 mpg. The seat of the pants feel should drasticly improve as well. Just watched the weather , supposed to rain again this weekend. :( We'll see.

As if I didnt have enough things to throw on the Scrambler this weekend I , umm , err stopped at the parts store. Earlier I had tucked the exhaust up and out of harms way but it was rusty and had the wrong tailpipe. I decided to right that p.o. fix this weekend also.

Well today I got the exhaust on and the Weber in before the sky opened up with my usual dosage of "day off" rain. The Weber definately idles smoother and responds better. I still have some tuning to do , dump some emmisions stuff ,and revamp my vaccum lines. I'll post up some pics tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to stab the h.e.i. in also. All I have now is this before pic.

The linkage for the Weber is a little more complicated but gives alot of points for adjustment. One thing I didnt like was having to break out the metric wrenches. ;) Heres how it looks after the install.

Heres the diagram I'll be following for the Vacumm lines. Elwood blues was kind enough to take some time for me and put this together. Time permitting I'll stab the H.e.i. in right away also.
