Build Thread My Cj-8 build thread
Thanx for the compliment. Im guessing things like paint and Herc arent really needed in your area like here in the East. A primered Cj would rot within 2 winters here. Its also nice to know a couple of the guys on this forum Ive come to respect checks in on me once in awhile. :)
that is such a killer example of what you can do if you just apply yourself to a project, makes me almost go out and paint some on my jeep. Naw, raw primer is my color.

Now back to the Scrambler. The Weber has been giving me fits. I went online trying to find what I was missing. I rebuilt it , new power valve and set the float to the specs I found. In some ways it was better , but all around it was worse. I had enough. I went out to the shed and grabbed my 'Weber fix Kit"! It works perfect. Heres a pic

Ok , Ok I decided to go to Old Faithful. I did a Mc2100 conversion on my 85 CJ7 and loved it. My $50 Weber had bloated its way up to $175 and wasnt a bargain anymore. The Mc2100 cost me $20. The adapter plate shipped was $18. Another $20 for a 9 in. air cleaner from Autozone and Im done. The only thing you really need to fab up is a bracket for your accelerator cable. I used a piece of cardboard to mock up my bracket , then made the real deal. You can see both in the post above. That one had to have some notches cut into it and a mounting hole drilled into it for the final fit. I now have great throttle response and a nice clean idle.

Good freakin deal Pete :chug:. The herculine job looks pretty darn good too!

Thanx man , your diagram made the vaccum routing brain dead easy . :notworthy: I know it took me awhile on my 85 to get it right. I know my next big expenditure is going to be a full soft top , but thats at income tax time. Not sure what Im doing with it up till then.

Brain dead easy, that's funny. You know you're welcome Pete :chug:

You could always come up here and finish my doors for me

Pete, the 8's coming right along & looking great! Keep it up:chug:

Thanx. Im really torn between lifting it and going to 33s / 35s or buying another one in worse shape bodywise and building it into a wheeler. That way I could trim sheetmetal and not feel so bad. :) I dunno. I'll decide sometime during or after the Holidays. Your "8" is one of the ones that makes me think I should keep it lower and buy a basket case.

My vote is.. one nice one and one wheeler.:chug:

Probably gonna start another thread with the "vote options".

Jeeez , do you think CJ guys will tell me to get another CJ? :D

THE ABOVE QUESTION IS RHETORICAL.

Quite possibly the best deal I have gotten came through the mail today. Cj8s have an odd bed size and the big old roll bar in them making them differ from standard mini trucks. Jeep sold some of them with Whitco tonnaue covers. They command between $300 and $400 for one in good shape. Mine is a custom made one that I got along with a Bestop bikini top shipped to my door for $41. Thats just awesome. :D It has no collector value but wow its gonna look good.

My vote is to keep the scrambler in good shape and find something else or another one to wheel. I'm still somewhat new to the game, but I feel like I would definitely regret it down the road if I cut up the only 8 I had.

Just my two cents

After today I think I have everything worked out pretty good with the carb and dizzy swap now. If you didnt read my other thread I accidentally installed my Mc2100 adapter plate backwards. :bang: That made the gasket stick out just far enough to hold back the butterflies in the carb. It prevented me from getting full throttle and was confusing for a bit. Now that thats all straightened out this weekend I'll make sure my timing is on fill the tank and then get some Mpg readings.

Ive been scouring the net these days looking for some Aluminum wheels that were 15 x 8. Havent had much luck till now. I had a set of Tj flares I was going to put on the CJ7 I sold to buy the Scrambler in my shed collecting dust. Im now trading them for a set of wheels. Im hoping the style will look ok with the Scrambler. Heres a pic. What do you think? Newer but still a little old school I thought. Comments?

Pic deleted.

I've always liked those wheels, so yeah, I think they'd look good on the Scrambler. Two questions though, are they 5 x 5.5" bolt pattern and are you getting 4 or 5 3.png?

Hey , I may put my adapter plate on backwards but I know to make sure the wheels are 5 on 5.5. :D Only 4 not 5. :( That being said Im sure they'll look better than the rusty white wagon wheels. I never saw these before. I thought they were a newer style? Doesnt matter to me anyway. I like that there are "spokes" in them. That kinda lends to old school styling IMHO.

Just making sure anim_59.png

They look like American Racing Atlas wheels, they've been out for at least 10 years, probably more.

I like the wheels Pete, I've been kicking around changing my rusting wheels out too. With Christmas coming and me only working 8 days in November, new wheels are a far off pipe dream for me, but I still dream....

I know it's not pretty like aluminum, But it was a rusty white spoke wagon wheel. After a little "Naval Jelly", a wire wheel on my drill & a rattle can of paint it looks a lot better.;)View attachment 1640
