Misc. Name that part

It’s a bit tough to confirm from that picture. But, I’d say it’s the coolant temperature sensor pigtail.
What year and is the motor stock?

84. I'm not certain if it's stock. It does not appear to be based what I'm seeing vs what's in the service manual. I could be wrong though. Here is a zoomed out picture. Is it a critical component?1000002633.webp

I think your Jeep originally had a computer-controlled carb, which uses a nightmare conglomeration of sensors and vacuum lines. It's possible that there have been upgrades to the Jeep to eliminate that problematic system. The coolant sensor was part of that original system and is probably not needed anymore, likely due to a replacement/upgraded carb.

The temperature gauge runs off a different sensor located near the rear of the motor on the other side, with a single wire.

Weather Pack connector, not likely native.

I think my 4 cylinder had something just like that. That’s long gone now. I’m using that on my 6 cylinder now. IMG_3639.webp
