Need dana 20 help!

I'm replacing gaskets and seals on my Dana 20 . I can't get the cover off/separated from the shift rails. I thought it would just slide off, but it won't come off. I don't want to force it and screw something up.

Need suggestions or the answer. Thanks in advance.

On the rail there is a fork set screw that needs to come out. I take extra care in removing the set screw if the head gets buggered up it’s a pain to get out.



To pull out the rail turned the rail counter clockwise. This will freed up the spring loaded poppet ball from the notch in the shaft. The poppet ball and spring will come loose as the rail clears the bore.
