Need help changing my transmission fluid.

:ww: RIPT. Glad you joined the site and filled out your profile a bit. Is your Transmission an automatic or manual?

I have a 1976 Jeep CJ7 and I need to change the Transmission fluid, however, my pans aren't labeled, and never have changed my Transmission fluid before. Please help!

The engine oil pan is closest to the bumper and has a drain plug.
The nest pan back is the Transmission pan, it has no drain plug and is about 1" deep. You have to drop the whole pan. The best thing to do is leave a few bolts loose in one corner and take the rest out, that way a lot of it will drain out of the corner and than you can finish dropping the pan..

If you have the quadra-trac with the GM Turbo 400 Transmission I believe it takes 5 quarts.
Not to pick on you, but you should pick up a repair manual for the jeep. A Haynes at the very least.

You need to keep in mind that you are not draining all the fluid just whats in the pan. The torque converter will still be full.

Haven't done it on a Jeep (all my are manuals), but on my old 4Runner I dropped the pan, drained it, cleaned the pan and put it back on, then filled it with fresh fluid.

Then I removed the Transmission cooling line going into the radiator, put it in a milk jug, and would run the engine till I had 3 quarts in the jug, cut truck off, add three quarts of fresh fluid.

Basically a flush, but not a pressurized flush. Repeat until you see fresh clean red fluid. Kind of a pain, but it's a way you can get almost all the old fluid out without an special equipment.

X2, I never owned an auto in any Jeep I've owned but change all my newer cars as mentioned above.

I know next time around Im putting a drain plug in mine while Im at it.
