Hello folks,
Im new to the site, I needed some help with a 85 CJ7 that my wife and I bought a few years ago to fix up and enjoy. Then life got in the way. So not much work has been done just a lot of driving it and as needed repairs. I was doing a web search and your site came up with some info that I found helpful so I decided to join

I have a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l with a 5sp tranny and a p.o.s. Carter carb. Here's where I need the help. The carter has a flat spot in it so I decided to replace it. When i went looking for a replacement i found the weber carb. (Doesn't appear to be California legal) a friend suggested the MC 2100 as a good replacement, some feel it is better then the carter or weber. I don't know myself was looking for some advice which Is the better way to go. I would also like to get rid of them smog :dung: on this jeep as I will be moving to New Mexico in about a year and the smog is not required.

If your going to be moving, I would go with the Weber. I have had great luck with mine. And by the way welcome from Texas.

If you are moving I would suggest you repair/replace as much of the smog stuff as possible, at very least do not throw it away. there is no telling what tomorrow will bring. And I would suggest an MC2100/2500 as a replacement. the ford carb is a lot less expensive and a lot easier to set up, not to mention Made in America.:D

....I would go with the Weber. I have had great luck with mine....

Go with the MC 2100. Webers are OK if you get a good one out of the box but they are not all good; it was my experience that if you don’t get a good one out of the box you have an expensive door stop. It says on the outside of the box “No warranty whatsoever” and again from my experience THEY MEAN IT!

The carter is better off road as well, it will take inclines and angles better than the Weber...
