Vehicle(s)
1979 Jeep CJ7 TH400 Automatic 258 I6 Quadratrac Amc 20 rear & Dana 30 front, 32 x 11.5 x 15 tires. Currently a Complete Custom Rebuild in progress.

Also I own a 2001 Jeep Cherokee, White, all stock with 4.0L. automatic, and police package. Best part of that is it came with leather seats! This package also has the NP242 Transfer Case, 8.25 rear end, and trailer towing package.
In the picture below, does anybody see the timing marks on the sprockets that need to be aligned? I guess for now I will make my own. Although I'm not sure how it matters since I'm replacing all of it. Thanks Rod

Crank = circle is around 11 o-clock - cam = circle at 2

Some slack there.

Ok, but I guess it didn't show up in the picture. My fault. Another circle at 4 o'clock on ghe crank just like the one at 11. Thanks Rod
PS what about the pointer at 7 o'clock on the cam?

Interesting, I don't happen to see the circle on the cam gear that Posi spotted at the 2:00 position, but I do see a pointer at almost the 6:00 location. That chain has got a lot of slack, btw.

Try moving the cam mark (the one at 2 o-clock) to 1 o-clock, the crank mark should mesh with the chain at that position, count the pins there should be 15 between marks.

I'll give it a try. So far not so easy to turn. Yes, I noticed the slack while replacing the pan gasket for leaks. No other indication prior to that. New chain and sprocket s on orddr for replacement. Thanks Rod

Ok, pointer and circle that you couldn't see line up and put the #1 piston at top dead center. But I only count 13 links. ???? Rod

This is what I finally used to turn it.

Knew it would come in handy someday. By the way, no other markes line up. Think I got it? Rod

Got the new timing chain and sprockets in. Installed them with ease. All the marks lined up perfectly too. New Cam Sprocket is all metal now, and not part plastic. Thanks for the help guys! Rod
