On Board Air Location and Switches...

I am guessing this will go in this sup-forum. I am looking to add on board air to fill up my 35's after wheeling and to power my air locker in the rear.

I am looking for a stand alone compressor system that doesn't run off the motor of the jeep. I also need switches to power the locker.

Could you guys post up pictures of where you installed your compressor and switches to engage and disengage the locker.

Any other advice here would be appreciated...

I assume not running off the motor doesn't include running off the battery as most do?
ARB sells them, go on line and there are various models , sizes & prices that have various ratings for how fast they will fill a tire.........nice to have a 1-2 gallon storage tank mounted under the Jeep or in the engine compartment........like wise the compressor is best mounted outside of the drivers compartment to stay away from the constant cycling compressor noise...........
Switches ? wherever they are comfortable to you...........normally guys like them in a console or overhead as opposed to the dash more so because if your strapped in most times you cannot reach the dash.

I have an ARB compressor mounted on the passenger side inner fender. I mounted the switches for the lockers on a switch panel on the lower dash.
This compressor can air up tires but it is really to small for that. I carry a power tank to air up tires.

I installed the ARB compressor on the passenger inner fender. It was a nice fit, once I rotated the mounting bracket:







Switches were initially installed in an 'add-on' panel for testing purposes:



Permanent switch locations will be on the 'kicker' panel:



Although this version of the ARB compressor can be used to provide air for tools, inflations, etc., I will probably install a separate system with a tank. Probably a Viair system.

Very nice set up guys. I'm kind of getting excited like a boy on Xmas eve. LOL. The two systems I am looking @ right now are the ARB CKMA12 or a Vair system. I am thinking of mounting the tank on the rear inside the cab around the roll bar.

I like those switches too guys.

Hackfabitcation, is that first switch for a winch? I am doing something similar to that as well.

Do you also make those dash? I was checking them out on JeepForum. They look pretty awesome. I also hear it can be costumed by the end user...

The first switch and lights next to it, is for my electric fan setup. The Flex-a-Lite controller has a option to hook up 'always on' or 'always off'.



The fan switch will be moved up to the right of the steering wheel, the ARB switches to the kicker. My inside control for the winch will also be mounted on the kicker. Got those switches from: http://www.otrattw.com/

Can someone tell me how much air the ARB actually uses. I would think that once the air actuator was pressurized it would stay that way until it was released. I would not think that the compresser cycling would be much of a bother.

Once in a while I see the remark made about mounting winch controles on the dash although I have never actually seen anybody do it. I, for one, remember a number of times when the last place I wanted to be while operating the winch was in the drivers seat. And a couple of times I wished the lanyard was longer.

Most in my jeep club have winch switches on the dash. U can still use the cord. Never gave it much thought either way...

In the split second when the hook/cable passes through the windshield, this will more than likely come to mind.

I would think that an electric compressor would be pretty much maxed out to fill a set of 35s, but there are some good ones out there. An air tank would really help here, as previously stated. I keep my head down out of the line of fire when I am spooling up from in the cab.

That's why I use synthetic line.

Never had a cable break so I can't say. I have watched safety videos of winch cables breaking, dont have alot of faith in the flag, short, or rope your supposed to tie on the middle of said cable… I agree with the super duper long remote. Sorry to get off track

I would recommend a suitable relay with a fuse as close to the battery as possible. trigger the relay with a switch.
