1970 CJ5, V6, 3spd, power steering, headers, electric fans, upgraded larger radiator, '78 grill, disc brakes (front only), swing pedals, hyd clutch, extended front shock mounts, upgraded front driveline w larger u-joints, warn OD, D30 front diff, lockers, 2100 carb, working on a '74 tub replacement, '78 windshield frame with '78+ Acme hardtop
Just added another CJ5 to the stable. I have a single Warn Overdrive , which one would you put it in?

First is '69 CJ5 with V6, T-14 , 4:88s, lockers, 33" tires, headers and used 85% off-road in USA.

Second is '70 CJ5 with V6, T-14 , 3:73s, open diffs, 29-30" tires and is used 80% on non-4X4 surfaces in USA & Baja.

Considering your gear ratio, tire size and type of utilization, I believe I'd put it on the '70 model.

:)The 70 already has a tall gear in it so I cannot see any good reason to add it to that vehicle and end up with a 2:79 final drive ratio in high gear. Way to fast for Highway driving.

On the other hand the 69 with the 4:88's even though driven off road would be complemented by having the ability to have a 25% gear change in all gears Nice to be able to pick a different ratio for some of those off road challenge's where by one gear is just not right for the trail.

Of course I am assuming that both of these vehicles still have either a D-18 or Dana 20 Transfer Case and are both set up for the offset drive to the rear drive so that the rear port is still open for the Warn OD.

Still offset drive original transfer cases. Since I have a couple of post I will post my feelings. Basically, my opinion was the same as tarry99. The ability to split the gears was the attraction for me. If I need more high end on the '70 I can install larger dia tires.
