Planning the 7th Annual Jeep-CJ Trail Ride
We have 10 folks representing 2 coastal states 3000 miles apart.

Yes, towing Bobby's Jeep 2200 miles in 2 days

Wow, that's brutal.

Insanity has faint, thin, blurry boarders doesn't it?

Not sure I'd do that in ANY vehicle while towing NOTHING at all... I'm a nervous wreck flat towing mine the 1300 out there in 2 1/2 days.

That's an average speed of 45.8 mph over 48 hours...

With the corrections it looks like 17 Jeeps and 26 people:

EVERYUSERNAMEISTAKEN, (2 jeeps)
Hog Head

This is correct^^ Sorry for the confusion! As of right now we are at 99.5% committed for my CJ7 (2 people), Hog head's CJ7 (2 people) and a JK (1-2 People at 85%).

So you will have 3 jeeps and 5 or 6 people between you, Hog Head and the JK?

So this should be right then:

17 Jeeps and 29 people:

007 (2 people)
MrIPlayBass & OldJeepLady (2 people)
Bill D (2 people)
BusaDave9
Posi (2 people)
Shooby
JR74CJ5 (Two jeeps, 4 people)
Coldair
Bobby and Blacky (2 people)
Powdertwoplanker
WhatRoad (2 people)
Hagar (2 people)
EVERYUSERNAMEISTAKEN, (2 jeeps, 4 people)
Hog Head (2 people)
Ben

That is the plan for now. My work schedule is not allowing for me to fully commit. If all goes according to plan we will have our own mini group. Busa, I'll send you a PM in a little bit so you can have my phone number.

Coldair told me a few days ago he plans on having his jeep ready and is bringing his wife 😀
And we will be trailering our jeep from SE Wisconsin with our F350 mobile shop. Hahaha

That's quite all right. We're only working with approximate numbers now. Few can fully commit. Heck maybe I'll just go motorcycling that week.

No, just kidding. Even if I get hit by a bus a week earlier I'll find some way to be there and show you guys over the mountains. This has been growing every year. This year it is 3 times bigger than last year. Bigger and better each year.

Some of you I've known for years and still I've never met you. JR is one in particular I'm really looking forward to meet. :chug:
And the regular group that has been showing up year after year has really grown close.
See you guys in August.

Haha ok well someone might want to call ahead and warn Ouray that a gang of CJ's will be taking over the town!

:( Wish I was in that gang this year

Feelings mutual with a lot of you all too.

Okay so it's a bit weird yet not in a bad way. But you see Ouray is known for three main things, and a few others.

Switzerland of America - you'll see this on shirts hats stickers etc while there.

Jeep Capital of the World - you'll see this too on shirts and hats and stickers while there.

Ice Climbing - you'll see this as well

Jeepers in general are very very welcomed here. Obviously it's because it's Ouray's main source of tourism and also because 9 of 10 are just good people having a good time and not acting crazy.

CJ people seem to be revered a little differently. There are a lot of people there that make an effort to reach out to you and talk about your jeep and or give you a thumbs up etc. The advent of the CJ is pretty much what brought that facet of tourism into full swing there, so for many there is a connection.

This of course does not diminish any other model of Jeep throughout Ouray's history, but some just view them differently. You'll see TJs and JKs galore all with good folks in them as well.

You'll also find that the town gets pretty quiet around 9:30. Only one bar stays open late and it's mostly locals. Most trail folks are getting ready for the next day.

If you live at altitudes most of us live in, then have ever gotten a little hammered one night at Ouray's 7,792' then woke up the next morning to hit the trails this would make crystal clear sense to you why it's basically shut down by 10ish.

Shoot Ill probably be tucked in bed by 8:30. I live about 16ft above sea level and the hangovers already kill me!

My cousin and I found that bar. They lock the door around 9:30 like you mentioned. The fun part, whoever is in the bar after they lock the door gets to stay as long as you keep drinking (no closing time). Yup, we hung late with the locals that night. : )

Last year on the way out, we blew the tube off the intercooler on our F350 . No sooner did we repair that, and the trailer brakes locked up, like as we were pulling out of the dealers parking lot where we bought the parts to fix the truck ! On the way home, just east of Grand Junction, CO, 2 of the drums on the trailer exploded! taking 1 of the tires with them ! That was fun heading down towards Denver with brakes on only 2 trailer wheels.
This year, we are having no end of problems with our CJ . We haven't even driven it yet, and I am starting to get a little concerned about finishing it in time to roll some miles on it before heading to Colorado. But............we will do everything and more to be there..............even if we have to bring the trusty blue oval that we brought the first year we came!

Haha ok well someone might want to call ahead and warn Ouray that a gang of CJ's will be taking over the town!

I would call NAPA, to see if they deliver..... :poke:
Wish you all only the very best of times. :chug:
LG

Bass/OJL... I know you're having issues but you'll be okay. You both are way too good at what you do to yo beat yourselves up.

You're trailer is good, the truck is good again and the Jeep will have a fresh motor AND you still have 3mos. You'll be fine.

Are brakes on all 4 trailer tires a must have for the mountains? Obviously 4 are better than just 2. I ask b/c I am currently rebuilding a new to me but very used 16ft tandem trailer that doesn't have any brakes. My plan was to install 1 set of brakes on the front 2 tires. I claim ignorance due to where I live. South of Houston where the tallest hill is when you drive over a rail road track..

After reading your build thread I am confident that you and your better half have the knowledge and skills to get your CJ up and running before the trail ride!

Don't even think about going through the mountains without all 4 brakes working on your trailer! The only reason I did it was #1: I drive an F350 diesel. #2: 40 years behind the wheel of big rigs taught me how to use the engine and Transmission to control decent down a steep grade. A gas engine does not have the same braking power down shifting as a diesel does. I also stayed in the far right hand lane with my flashers on following tractor trailer rigs that were descending around 25mph or less.
Again, don't even think about going without your brakes working properly. It's just not worth it!
Also, if you get stopped by the DOT and they see that there are 4 brakes, and only 2 of them are working, they will require you to drop your trailer at the nearest place allowed and call someone to tow it and repair it before you can continue on your way.
