Does anyone have any experience with this stuff? What have you used it on? What does a spray can cost? Does it cover about the same area as a regular can of spray paint?

I have watched YouTube videos of applying it, is it really that simple? Will the coating last? Is overspray a problem?

I'm thinking of spraying my old chrome American Racing mag wheels. If it looks good, I might just buy some Soft 8's (black).

Thanks,
Bert... :chug:

My last truck had sprayed aluminum wheels. they looked really good. I have thought of spraying the current truck wheels. It is not really suitable for any degree of abuse, they scratch and even peal off.

I have heard this is kind of expensive needing about $100 worth of rattle cans. getting it on too thin is the reason it peals.

Of course paint that peals off in sheets in kind of cool if you like to change colors or trim accents from time to time.

The only time I've used it is for it's intended purpose.......and that was long before they came out with the spray-on version. I've got a few hand-tools I coated the handles in.

I used it on my Old Titan for the "Smoked" or "Blacked out" look. held up well on the chrome almost like a protective coating I pealed once a month. what you dont mask off, make sure the over spray is heavy then you can peal it easier. if you do the rims, stuff playing cards in between the rim and tire then spray. if your doing the parking, brake, turn, lenses I recommend VHT NITE shades. if you use a light coat you can stay legal and look good. I'v been pulled over in both my Jeeps.. but never had any problems with the tint. I used about 3/4 of a can per rim, heavy 2 coats. @ 7bux a can at walmart. The VHT is 15 bux a can but doesnt peel and has a nice strong gloss finish, mud cleans right of. held up on the CJ for a year so far looks great. doing the JK now , only have the grill ambers done. the fender amber is stock. Both sprays are great for different reasons. :chug:

I have had it on my wheels for a couple years now. Granted I dont get to do a lot of wheeling but it has held up pretty well. The big thing is to make sure its clean first. Wash then wipe down with rubbing alcohol. Start with a fairly light coat then build it up. Cards worked well when doing the wheels and I taped up the lug nuts and placed them in the holes. You do not want it on the wheels where the lug nuts make contact. Washing has not been a problem as I always hand wash it. I also did the grill. There are a few rock chips but it chipped the plasti dip rather than the paint. Bugs for the most part will just wipe off. If you get some scratched areas, acetone on a gloved finger will smooth it out then you can touch up that area and will look like new again. Dont shoot me but here is an image of the wife's JK (the CJ is still being built) My opinion but I think it turned out pretty good.

Almost forgot, did all 5 wheels and I believe I used 4 cans with some left over.

I did a custom job on my KLR and it looked great. If you are going to have taped edges you need to peel immediately after spraying and still wet or run the tape edge with a razor. Also give it a couple days to dry and you can spray it with standard clear coat and it will be a nice gloss black finish and it has a much more durable finish.
