Filling holes .... At one time would have been a chore, now, with a MIG welder not so much of a problem. small holes can be welded in, bigger ones can be patched. I'd like to find premade what I call "Rounds". Maybe they are available. I find a bolt the right size and cut it like bread. Clean around the hole, maybe even drill the hole bigger to make a nice clean hole. Weld the "round" in and clean up the weld with a flap wheel, then paint. Love that MIG welder for this sort of thing.

Hey I know that Jeep :D Some of my buddies wanted me to paint him, but I just love the old style graphics and color.

Im thinking about the same graphics with UNLIMITED on the hood. Still have to convince Vicki though.

I think that method will be great for the larger holes. Gonna have to bring this up when I take the doors to my brothers. :chug:

Oh Yeah!! I know its not even Halloween for many of you , but its Christmas in Slatington Pa. When I got the first pictures of the Limited texted to me from Vicki I saw that Slate Blue interior and loved it.

After I got it home I noticed alot of blemishes on the interior. The previous owner used screws to reattach a door panel. The dash was cracked. Another repair to the upper door panel used staples. I wanted to keep the Limited theme but I didnt want to settle for the beat up parts I had. I scoured the internet to no avail.

As a moderator here Im supposed to read every post in every thread and keep an eye on everything. While CJ does pay me a six figure salary ( BULL :dung: ) I may miss 1 or 2. It was awhile between posts for one of our members who had a nice clean CJ build thread right here. Rbagley started with a pretty seasoned Limited . Im glad he didnt want the Slate Blue:

sweet find, congrats :chug:

I only have one more piece to find. If anyone sees a Slate Blue center console out there thats the last piece of the puzzle. :)

I was a little nervous sending the wheels with the tires to someone on Craigslist I never met. Originally I was asking $300 for them and they pay to dismount. He got me to $275 then told me he had a tire machine in his garage. Well played I guess. I didnt count the money in front of him and off he went with all 5.

I count when he leaves and sure enough its only $255. I call right away and he does call me back. Thankfully hes honest and shows up yesterday with my wheels and $20. :chug: I guess when we blast the tub I'll do the wheels right away.

Well, there's honest folks and swell folks. Glad that transaction didn't head south:beer:

Yeah I was worried cause he wasnt a Cj guy as well. He was putting the tires on a S-10. Anyway $275 is 1 tire mounted and balanced. Only 3 more to go. :D Your Talptalk issue resolved?

Sure did, thanks for your guidance on that. I was trying to post while viewing threads. I have to go into forums and then click on menu( 3 dots) on my phone, then click in the (pencil) icon.

I got a Harbor Freight tire mounter thingy a few weeks ago. It was only about $40 and bolts to a pallet. I got it to use for ATV tires and it paid for itself in changing out one set of ATV tires (local shop charges $5 to dismount and $10 to mount). Granted, I have no way of balancing car/truck tires, BUT I did dismount my 4 31x10.50's from old aftermarket wheels using this tire changer (saved me $20) before taking the tires to the tire shop and having them mount and balance them on OEM chrome wagons.

It is typical Harbor Freight chinese junk, and I don't expect it to last forever, BUT for trailer tires, ATV tires, etc it is great, and again, for $40, it pays for itself the first time you use it. I've got 3 ATV's and somehow ended up being the "works for beer" ATV mechanic for my buddies, so the tire changer has seen a lot of use in the few weeks I've had it.

Glad you got it straightened out. :chug:

Id like to look into one and see. It may be something I could use. The old tires off the Laredo will find their way onto the Limited to use as rollers and mock up.

I made my first mistake with the Limited already. I actually made it before I took out one bolt. If you look in the picture you'll see that I have minimal room between the hardtop and the roof where I tucked the Cj in. I didnt plan on removing the roll bar to take the top off but looks like I dont have a choice. Its High School football nite tonite so thats tomorrows work.

Just wanted to let you all know that there is a little progress being made. I have to admit that rollbar worked me over a little. Damn Torx bolts. Anyhow , now that its out of there I can take the hardtop off. Im going to paint it and slap it on the Laredo for this Winter. I just have to figure out how to minimize the time that the hardtop takes up my parking spot in the garage. :)

Anyhow heres a progress pic. I believe I'll get ready to take out the drivetrain next.

The extra holes in my doors are all welded up and I'll be picking them up this weekend. The passenger one was the worst.

I'll be pulling the Transmission and Transfer Case out tomorrow. Sold it for $275 and the bellhousing I need for the SM 465 swap. :chug:

Finally got in a decent garage session today. Took out the driveshafts , Transfer Case , Transmission and bellhousing. Also got a bit of help and removed the hardtop. I hope to prep and paint it tomorrow so it wont look out of place on the Laredo . Look everyone its a Jeepsaw puzzle! :)

Ive always been one of the guys that sticks up for the T-176 Transmission . Its probably the only decent Transmission AMC used in the 80s. Behind a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l and coupled to a Dana 300 it forms a pretty solid drivetrain. That said I couldnt help but take a pic of it side by side with the SM 465. The pic is slightly misleading cause the Muncie is on a dolley but you get the drift.
