Which tube fenders have you decided on and why? I noticed some folks simply cut the stick fender. I am not at that point yet, but have considered buying a pair of stockers to cut and keep my originals.

Im not going to hack away at another set of stock Cj fenders. I pretty much painted myself in a box when I decided to boatside the Yj tub. I could cut out the bottom edge of the fender but I think it looks tacky. I dont care for the front edge of the fender being cut off either. That gives some clearance but weakens the leftover sheetmetal.

I'll be fabricating some tube fenders for this one. I borrowed the below pic from BIGTRUCKNUT's build thread. Mine will be similar to this. The difference will be that mine will angle inward on the bottom at the same degree the boatsides do. I'll also add a small round sidemarker light cause mine will be a daily driver. I cant really find anything aftermarket for mine , and if I did it would be around $500-$600. I cant see paying that for tube fenders.

Right on, go ahead and make those fenders, ship them to 85renegade,sounds like he is going to put them on for me:D
I will then tool around and gather feedback before you install the 2nd pair on your cj. :D

85 Renegde bailed , he'll only work on your Volkswagon. I'll just be designing and bending tube and such. My brother will be doing the important part , welding them all together. Besides Id ont think youd want to wait. That project is way down the road. First dis assembly , tub repair frame repair clean up all the rust Sm465 conversion etc , etc...

Just got caught up on your new project Pete. I'm really interested in the 465 conversion and how the boat sides will turn out, I have seen them done on a TJ and they looked cool. What's all that redish scalely stuff y'all got bubbling your paint? don't see that growing on ours out here in the desert. :D Luck on the build

Glad you stopped by. Havent heard from you in awhile so I imagine your out enjoying your Cj huh? The boatsides should be coming up fairly quick. That redish scaley stuff is whats going to push back the SM465. It will be the first piece of the drivetrain to get attention though. Im hoping to have that rolling no later than Tax time , hopefully sooner.

Its tough finding alot of time to work right now. Ethan is a starter on our J.V. and Varsity football teams and my daughter Cassie is also starting for both Soccer teams. Couldnt be prouder of either of them but it does suck up some time for sure. Im just trying to do a little each nite on non game nites. :chug:

Got a little garage time tonite. Rusty dusty and dirty , I loved it. :) I told Vicki if this project stays true to the way things went tonite it'll be done by 2040. Got the fenders off and all the hardtop bolts out. That was pretty much it , but its progress.

At least you're working on yours. I have extra transmissions, axles, mufflers, a 2.5" lift, detroit truetrac, and a Powertrax no slip all sitting in the shop waiting for attention.

I did finally get both sets of OEM chrome wagon wheels cleaned up and installed (they've been in the shop for 2-3 years)

Procrastinate much? :D

After comparing them side by side for quite awhile we both like the Slate blue. I like the Renegade graphics but would have to get something custom for the hood. Vicki isnt sold on that yet.

Um, let me get back to you on that......

Seriously, I looked back and I've had this truetrac since 2005. I gotta get moving on this stuff.......

Wow 2005 is a little much but... :D

I headed out to my brothers last nite for a visit. I helped him out with a few things around his houes , we ate and shot the :dung:. Never worked on the tub but it was a great visit.

It wasnt totally Jeep free though. We talked about how to get some more stuff cleaned up. I had big concerns over the hard doors for the Limited . The driver side only needs 2 small holes filled from the crazy tow style mirrors.

The bad part comes when we get to the passenger side. I counted 18 holes. Fine for a round of golf , not so good for my doorskin. My brother says he can fix it though.

What's the best way to fill said holes?

He told me I take the door panel off and come through the back side of the panel with a piece off copper. Then he'll plug weld them from the outside. I neglected to tell him how many there were. :D

Just make the drivers side match and call them screendoors:D

 I like that one. Maybe on one of my prior builds , but this one is supposed to be a little higher end than that.

Thats why I cracked the joke. I know the outcome will be jam up and jelly tight, other words keep on keepin on but don't forget the pics. Since I'm not making progress on nine its nice to see tasteful progress made elsewhere.
