Not sure if this is the right forum for brake questions, but my replacement proportioning valve now leaking quite badly. 1979 CJ7 with disc/drum brakes and it's draining, at least more quickly, the rear reservoir in the master cylinder.

I see a lot of posts related to ongoing issues with these proportioning valves. The one I purchased is https://www.morris4x4center.com/disc-drum-proportioning-valve-aluminum-mbm-pv2a.html.

My question is two-fold. Is there a better aftermarket valve that won't leak or at least has a better track record? Two, since it's a huge pain to get to the valve at the frame mounted location, can it be mounted near the master cylinder when I replace this next time assuming it's the valve and not just a fitting?

Thanks.

I would contact Morris and ask who they get it from.
Are you using DOT 3 spec brake fluid?
Do you have a NAPA in your area?

Take the bad p'valve in with you, so you can match fittings and port locations.

I have the CJ prop valve from inlinetube.com (VLM101 is the part number, IIRC). Installed early this year and no issues with it.

But I would try to figure out where/why yours is leaking. Do the threads/flares look good on the lines?

I looked at it more closely at it appears that it might just be one of the front brake outlet fittings. If I'm lucky, I can redo that fitting and fix it.

You might look into getting it rebuilt by a local brake shop. I got one that was remanufactured by Crown. It made a noticeable improvement on the braking.

Take a flare-nut wrench and see if all the fittings need to be tightened.
