proportioning valves?

I am having trouble finding a proportioning valve for a 78 CJ7 . Qtec shows "coming soon". Dealership maybe? The problem I'm having is its seeping from a small round rubber something on the side of the valve that is visible laying under the jeep. Even considering sealing it somehow,but being under pressure I'm not sure what would hold.... Any ideas?

I got mine from 4WPW, I am pretty sure it was a remanufactured one made by Crown. I was quite suprised by the improved braking that I got from it also. After I installed it I got a leak at the same place you do now, but it went away after a short while.

Ok, so I just found a brand new one that came with the jeep, figures, looks like I'm going to have to get a fitting to down size the aft inlet/outlet so the brake line will thread in. Just saw them on ebay too,, guess I should start looking there too.What ever happened to the local auto parts store?

Torxhead, this new one doesn't have the round rubber whatever that is. It was in a bag with other crown parts like wheel bearings and such. On ebay they talk and show putting fittings in them to adapt them... What do you think? This one is identical except for the aft inlet looks to take a half in fitting

That thing on the end of the proportioning or combination valve is called a metering valve. The rubber end is a cap for that valve and is used for bleeding purposes. From the little research that I did the oem style of prop valve is unique to the later CJs. I guess guys do get other valves to work though. Another option would be to get your valve rebuilt by a quality brake shop, which is probably the best way to go.

Rebuild kits are available for proportioning valves through NAPA, CARQUEST and Bumper to Bumper stores. Whether or not a kit is available for the AMC valve is anyone's guess.

Ain't too much to the parts. Mainly a few O-rings and springs. I just purchased a new valve for my '77 Ford through Jeff's Bronco Graveyard and he also had a rebuild kit. Danged kit was almost as much as the new brass valve!

The FSM states that the prop valve is a non serviceable item. If it quits working the brakes will have a major problem stopping the Jeep. I choose to buy a new one.

The rubber part I'm talking about (on the p valve that is on the jeep now) is not the fwd rubber cover. It is on the side,, opposite the frame. I have an identical one but the fitting from the rear brake line is too small. I got stitches in my left hand today ,,, I'll post a pic tommorrow. Have you guys gotten a new one that had to be adapted with fittings? thanks , kevin

Looks just like the Ford P-valve I bought a couple weeks ago. It came with an adapter for the smaller front line fitting.

Hackfab, Where are those pre made brakelines from?

Inline Tube made the pre-bent lines for me. The front are for an 84 CJ, the rear are for a 76 CJ5 . I had to modify them slightly to work with the new prop valve location.
