Question after Nutter Bypass Complete

I did the Nutter Bypass today on the 86 CJ7 . I ended up with a relay that looks to have the big ignition wire teed off the main line connected to the relay and a red/white wire going to the started solenoid. I cut the other two wires going to the relay. Can I just connect the red and red/white together and take out the relay now since the other two wires have been removed?
Then there is this four or five way plug still wired into harness, I disconnected the other end and discarded. What was this for and can I just cut it out to make it look cleaner without the plug just hanging there?
Next I have a HEI distributor to install but wanted to do the bypass first to remove all the old wiring.
Then I have a Motorcraft 2100 carb coming from Gronk Performance to install.
Below are pics of the wires removed along with the relay and four or five way plug in question.
