So in looking over everything on our new CJ, I found this. It is the vent hose on the rear diff. In the top you can just see the little plastic cap. The bottom shows a small threaded 90 degree fitting attached to the hose. The question is where did this connect to the differential? I cant see very well the top of the housing but expect it has to go up there somewhere. Any advise where this connects would be appreciated. Will plan to change fluid and inspect just in case water has found its way in

I am going to guess the top of one of the axle tubes should have a suitable hole for the 90.:D

IO's right. Mine's about half way between the differential housing and the brake backing plate on the passenger side, on the top of the axle tube. Wouldn't doubt that there isn't a specific location between Jeeps. Might have to clean the axle tubes off and feel around for the hole.

I have that hose connected on top of the rear axle between the differential and the brakes but I have a SECOND hole up there (mabye a bit smaller) as well that leaks out gear lube whon I park at a list with that side down. The entire rear has been tilted 15 to 30 degrees upward toward the Transfer Case due to the suspension lift which raises the nose of the rear and its reseviour up higher than was origionally intended. I'm considering tapping it and putting a short extension hosenfrom it running upward to keep my gear lube from running out.

Any feedback? Are there supposed to be two of those vents on top of the rear drive shaft?

Either use it as another vent or plug it off so it doesn't leak. Ain't no telling why you have the extra hole.

Found another thread where they said it was for bolting on the brake lines that i no longer have in that vicinity. I'm going to check for another one on the other side asnwell and plug them both off.

Thanks,

Pretty sure it's for the brake line tee.

LocTite a bolt in. :D

I tapped my vent hole and put a barb fitting and hose on run up high under the wheel wheel with loop at the top pointing down.

Looks like the brake lines were replaced and I think they used the vent hole to mount the "t" I fond another hole so I tapped the hole and put a new fitting into it and attached the vent hose. Looks like that problem is now fixed. Time to move on to the next.

Good deal. There's always a "next" ain't they??? :D
