Hello all...
I have two CJ rebuild/restore projects in the works... I know. Lost my mind, but the second is a CJ8 Scrambler. Same make and model as my first Jeep... ever; I couldn't resist.

My quick question is this; will a 3sp Auto (32rh) Transmission from a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l I-6 (YJ) bolt up to the original CJ AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l I-6 in the Scrambler?

I appreciate all input, feedback and any lessons of wisdom you can offer me... yes, I'm a newb at the rebuilding.:notworthy:

The AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l Yj is basically a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l Cj. The Transmission will bolt right up. What Im not sure of is if the Dana 300 will. I thought the Yj actually used the TF999 ? Im not really up on Yjs though.

yeah as far as I know the TF999 was the yj auto behind the 6 cylinder but it should bolt to your engine..I think the 32 was used in 97-02 tj's behind the 4 cylinder as well as the 4.0

The YJ's (88 and up) use the NP231 Transfer Case , so while the later Transmission will bolt to the motor, I don't believe your Dana 300 will bolt to the Transmission without an adapter. Best to call someone like Novak about what you want to accomplish.

Ive just done a ton of reading on the NP231 and the ones that came behind the autos had a 21 spline input shaft. How does that mater to you you ask?? your Dana 300 has a 23 spine input. Thus the Dana 300 would not fit unless you either change the output on the Transmission or input on the Transfer Case .

Good luck.
