I just noticed that when I put my jeep into reverse the back up lights flicker but won't stay on. Sounds like it should be simple but where do I look? I assume it is a switch.

I think you should begin at checking for corrosion at the light socket. Then move towards the battery until it works correctly. On mine, I added a ground wire which seemed secure the connection to brighten the rear lights.

Ck the connector on the tranny.
If all ck's OK. Replace the switch on the tranny.

Checked the connections. Looks good. Also, when the lights are on they are bright. I might not have described the problem well. When I move the shifter into reverse and hold it to one side the back up lights come on and stay on as long as I hold pressure on the stick. When I let go they go out. This makes me pretty sure the issue is in the shifter mechanism. Any idea where that switch is?

New switch did the trick. An easy fix for once. Thanks

Glad it was that easy. :chug:
BTW: I keep a spare switch in my parts kit. ;)
