I am trying to find out which why to go with my 69 CJ5 . Should i stay with the v6 or go with a sbc? Would like your guy's imput on this matter.:notworthy:

the 6.. or a ls motor..

How about a 4.3ltr TBI Vortec V-6.

keep your Jeep a Jeep. stay with the V6.

I would stay with the oddfire. I have been going into my motor to make it ready for the road. Parts are easy to get on rock auto. The motor pulls easy in all gears and is hard to stall out with the heavy flywheel. Guess it really depends on what your planing to do with your cj. For me it's more of a weekend ride around town with the dog. Hit the trails we see off the main roads in hopes of a fishing pond along the way. The Dauntless Buick 225 V6 seems to be a reliable motor. If I could get past the exhaust note on mine it would be perfect !

The problems associated with making a V8 fit in an older CJ5 are enough to make you want to stay with the V6 ;)

I put a SBC in a YJ and it just fits. Don't see how you could shoehorn it into a pre-intermediate CJ5 even w/ a short waterpump, efan, etc. without hacking up the firewall and grille, although people certainly have done it.

A 4.3 might be the ticket if you are fixed on going w/ a newer platform.

We did one. It was a nightmare. We first trimmed up the front grill to try and get a radiator to work, and moved the entire drivetrain back, used an electric fan to help with clearance. What that did was create too short of a driveline.....having decided to not relocate the rear axle, we eventually moved the radiator to the back of the CJ and brought the drivetrain forward again. Being an offroad only rig, that wasn't a problem and it was the best solution.

Best just to stick with the V6 :D

CJim7, what kind of Transmission were you using when you did that swap?

4spd....NP435 if memory serves..
