What are you running for a bumper?

I want bumperettes but want to have a spare and afraid the 33" is too much...but aftermarket are stupid overpriced.

I built mine for about $50. The round tire plate is mounted with a receiver tube and pin so I can quickly remove the tire from the carrier if needed.

I ordered the hinge, and I just ran across the paperwork for it a couple months ago and probly pitched it. I believe it's basically a trailer spindle, but it came with the outer sleeve with zeros, inner bearings, oil seals, and cap. I'm lazy and went the prepackaged route. If I can scrounge up the source I'll post it up. The spindle welds to the bumper, passing all the way thru so the welds are on the outer surfaces top and bottom. Here's a couple more pics

Man - I've been diggin around, and cannot find the paperwork in it. It came in a kit - spindle, bearings, sleeve with zerks, and dust cap. If I run across the info I'll pass it on. It was a few years back when I ordered it though.

Here is mine. Bumper came from previous owner, unknown manufacturer. I wanted to try something different for the tire carrier, this is what I came up with. 1.75" x 0.120 tubing, mounted on leaf spring bushings. Pull the pins on the upper mount and it swings down. Works pretty well although it is fairly heavy with the 35 mounted on it. Its also kind of a pain in the rear if you have to get in and out of the tailgate a lot. On the plus side, it is totally silent, no squeaking or rattling like a lot of swing out carriers I have seen.

With the amount of flex between the frame and body when on twisty trails. Does that lower mounting point cause any stress related issues?

I slotted the holes, so all I need to do is loosen the bolts a turn, and I can pull them off to use the points.

Homemade bumpers front and rear. Front is 2" pipe bent/welded and then welded to a piece of 4" angle that bolts to the frame rails with a cut-out for the winch plate and two light mounting tabs on top. You can also see my flip-up license plate holder that attaches to the roller fairing in front of the winch. The rear bumper is square tubing (because that's what I had on hand) with a 2" round piece (left over from the front) for the hinge point on the passenger side. It does have bearings top and bottom of that vertical "hinge" piece and a zerk fitting to keep it greased. Tried to copy some I had seen online. The receiver and the d-ring mounts go clear through and are welded front and back both. The rear is also attached to the frame using angle brackets that bolt through the stock welded cross member. The spare and hi-lift both mount on the rear swing-out part.

Things I would have done different: (1) Add a 2" receiver to the front (for a bike rack or other accessory); (2) Add Rotopax gas/water can mounts to the sides of the rear swing-out.

with that being said I run EAG bumpers front and rear full width my rear i opted out of the tire carrier but it is an option

It’s a good thread, though.

I fabbed my rear bumper several years ago, and it’s one of those few mods I made that I continue to like. Heck, there’s got to be a thread about your favorite modification.

Laser cut 3/8" plate. Tucked in nice and tight but protects the fuel tank. There are flanges welded to the top of the plate and around the receiver.
The spare tire carrier swings to the left or right.

That looks pretty solid! I'll show that to my uncle for his new CJ project. Got to finish installing the rack and tonneau covers on the truck tomorrow before we can clear the garage.

I didn't need heavy duty, but needed to replace the bent piece of "c" channel and there was nothing in the rear.

I went with Pro Comp Rock Crawlers w/D-Rings.

$AMC 150 each with the rings.

I did have to find some frame brackets for the rear. A guy was making and selling both brackets and hardware for around $40 on eBay. He is no longer selling them.

Also found another eBay fabricator selling the diamond plate front frame covers. He is no longer active.
