hey i have a Dana 20 in my 78 CJ7 the speedometer slows from norman speed to nothing. you still go fast but the speedometer says 0 mph. i have told there is a collar on the output shaft that durns the gear for the speedometer gear. has anyone had any experience with his thanks for any help
Yup theres a gear on the out put shaft and another where the speed cable hooks into the case. They are normally plastic so there might be a chance that they have failed. Try taking the speedo cable off the case look at the end and see if its still either square of triangular shaped. If its still the correct shape attach a drill to the end of it and spin it with the drill. If the cable spins but the speedo acts up then you have a bad cable/speedo. It it operates good you have a bad gear set in the Transfer Case .
