Hello
Just an update. I have the inline 6, AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l litre. This Jeep had been sitting in a shed for several years and my first thought was to make sure it cranks over by hand first. It was tight so I pulled the plugs and put some "Crown penetrating spray" in the holes. I let it sit for a day and now the engine is nice and free and moves with a gentle push on the fan belt.
So next I thought I would try to crank it over ( with the plugs still out) with power. I put in a fresh battery and nothing but a click.
The wiring still seems solid from the battery to the solenoid so I was thinking I would isolate the starter and check it out next.
I was going to pull it off the Jeep and with battery cables put some power to it to see if it "pops and spins".
I am use to the starter on my tractor with two terminals on it. I can jump it with a screw driver if I want to.
If I "boost" the starter with cables connected to a battery, where do I put the negative, just on the housing somewhere? Also is this a good idea for my next move?
Again, thank-you very much for the help. I am just trying to take my time with all of this.
