stick shift shaft spring??

quick question..

on the bottom of the shaft of my stick shift there is 4 little grabber spring thingys that hold on to the stick that comes out of the top of the tranny.

they broke and the stick shift comes right off if i pull it up. i need new ones but i have no clue the part #, name, or if the parts store would carry it. can ya help with this info???

also my tranny sometimes is hard to go in first and i sometimes have to put it into second then into first like it has to line up or something? how is that fixed and whats happening?

the shifting problems sound like a syncs problem, and that means a rebuild is due, 29 years is good service if you ask me. Or it could mean the clutch is going bad, if you pull the tranny to check the clutch, you should just go ahead and rebuild it as it is suspect.
now about those springs, wow you got me. I would call a Transmission shop. You may be able to find some substitute spring they know of.

When I opened thread, I saw you posted so I read this first as I had not realized all the additional hilarity was going on and .....this sounded like some porn statement. What is wrong with me lately .
