t 14 to t 15

Hi everyone wondering what I can do..I twisted and snapped my 68 T-14 3sp..a new friend just gave me a nice and clean 1974 T-15 with a Dana 20 still attached..what do I do to swap? is it a simple cheap change or do i keep trying to get a T-14 ..i know its not the best but with very Limited funds not many options

Looking at an old Advance Adapters catalog and comparing various dimensions, it is not a direct bolt in. I would suggest you look them up online for the Jeep CJ tranny specs and see just what you can feasibly install.

The T14 and T15 are similar but different. I’m not sure what the “stick out” length is on the front shafts but I think the bolt patterns are compatible. You will need to check the pilot bushing size too. The rear shaft splines are different with the T14 being 10 spline and the T15 being six making the bull gears not interchangeable. The question is being able to bolt the 18 transfer case to the T15. Your 1968 Spicer 18 should be what is referred to as the “large hole” case. The input hole in a large hole 18 is 4” round rather than the 3-5/32” of earlier versions; in essence the large hole 18 case is the same case as used for the 20 but with 18 guts. What that means is that the 18 case will bolt to any transmission set up for the 20. The unknown to me is what needs to be done to get the bull gear of the T15 to mesh with the transfer case as the guts to the 18 and the 20 are not the same due to the offset verses direct drive. I would call or email Herm the Overdrive Guy or Novak Adaptors; I’m sure they can set you straight on what needs to be done.
