T-15 to T-18

I have a 73 CJ5 . It has a 360/T-15 Transmission ... i also have a 76 CJ7 w. A AMC 304 /T-18 ... can i swap the tranny from the 7 to the 5? If so what problems can arise? I lost 3rd today in my t-15... that's the only reason I'm lookin to swap. I plan to rebuild the t-15... just lookin for fastest cheapest route to put my 5 back on the road.... any help or sugestions would be great!!! Thanx ahead of time...

The T-18 is 1 7/8" longer than the T-15 . You'd have to shorten/lengthen the driveshafts at the least. Would be cheaper and easier to just drop and rebuild the T15 now.

Exactly.

The swap of the Transmission from one engine to the other would be simple, use all the stuff from the T-18 's current set up. But as Hole says, driveshafts, x-member / mount, and possibly clutch linkage / Transfer Case linkage etc. All things would need to be considered. Then you would have to "undo" everything you just did once you throw the T-15 back in...

What went out on the t-15? I know you said "lost third" just wondering if you know why / how...
