I just completed a master rebuild on my T-176 and my Dana 300 . Both rebuilds were a challenge (first time rebuilding Transmission and/or transfer) but totally worth the learning experience.

Here's my dilemma. After the T-176 rebuild was nearly complete I left it in neutral. Once it was all closed up I did my best to run it through its gears (this is kind of awkward without it mounted somewhere) which seemed to feel like it moved the forks, hubs, syncros, etc.

Put it all back into the Jeep ('85 CJ7 ) New Clutch Assembly, T-176 , 300 (which is a bear if you're free handing it)

Once it was all put back, the yokes on the 300 spun ok (everything still in neutral) and I attached driveshafts.

Then I engaged the 300 into 2H and got into the drivers seat to run the 176 through some gears and that's when I realized I couldn't get it to seat in any gear 1-4 or R....

I thought maybe it needed to spin a bit, so I cranked her up and everything sounded fine (NO grinding or whining from the 176) but I still could get it to slide into any gear period.

My next idea it to roll it forward / backward a few inches and see if hubs line up...?

If this doesn't work then I'm guessing I'll have to pull the shift tower and fiddle with the forks and rails, maybe something jammed in the re-install process....?

Any ideas, suggestions, thoughts, or pointing out of an obvious mistake I made (be easy it's my first rebuild:notworthy:) would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

:chug:

Thanks in advance!!!!

Are you sure you have the correct clutch, TO bearing and pedal freeplay is adjusted correctly(1 1/4-1 1/2" pedal freeplay)?

I am thinking either your clutch isn't disengaging or the shift rods weren't all in neutral when you installed the shift lever. In that case it could have been in 1st for example and then also jammed into 4th. You could remove the shift lever and make sure everything is in neutral.

Ok, so it turns out you were correct Busa. The forks were in 1st and 4th. Great learning experience for me.

Thanks for the input fellas! :chug:
