Correct me if Im wrong on this. The pin has bushings on either side of the torque arm similar to a pin type shock mount. Once assembled and tight, with everything in place but the bottom nut under the skid there is a bit of slop in the bushings so the case can move a bit. Then the bottom end of the pin is supposed to seat down thru the hole in the skid and the nut should be tight till bottomed so the pin does not move in the skid plate.
This is basically how mine is,however when I got my CJ the nut was off the bottom of the pin. When I put a nut on it and tightened it down it drew the T case,Transmission ,motor down with it about 1/2". Its like solid motor mount with no cushion on the skid plate, just in the arm where the bushings are. I do not recall there being any adjustment in the bushing end of things to allow the T case,Transmission ,motor to relieve it back up the 1/2 " it was drawn down. Would this be correct?

I think the motor mounts are shot. The AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l tends to sag to the rear when they get old. The valve cover gets close to the firewall and the clutch linkage can even fall out. You want to keep that engine in there as tight as you can.

I'm going through a renovation of my CJ...and bushings and mounts are that list. I found my torque arm bushings destroyed and the Transmission mount about the same. Super easy to fix....motor mounts where a pain so good luck.
